Are you interested in growing your career as a Trainee Accountant with Ireland’s only 4 star airline? We are looking for an aspiring accountant who will join the Finance team under a Graduate Trainee Programme for three and a half years. Over the duration of this programme, you will rotate between roles within the wider Finance team (Reporting & Accounting, Business Control, Treasury), as appropriate. You will also be fully supported in working towards your professional accountancy qualification with generous paid study leave. As a trainee, you will be a key member of the Finance team, working closely with others in ensuring financial integrity of information, achieving both departmental and wider business objectives, supporting business decisions and working towards continuous improvement in processes and in the quality of Aer Lingus internal and external financial reporting. Over the duration of the programme, there is tremendous scope for you to gain broad, relevant experience in a very dynamic environment,while working towards a professional accounting qualification. 

Your role:

As there will be role rotation across Finance, responsibilities will evolve over the duration of the programme. Your role will primarily be:

Ensure the timely and accurate recording of Company costs and revenues, in compliance with accounting standards
Preparation of monthly variance analysis, including detailed descriptions and clear insight, of variances in cost and revenue categories compared to budget, forecast and prior year
Perform monthly analysis on, and reconciliation of, balance sheet accounts such as accruals, treasury accounts, prepayments etc.
Preparation of annual financial plan for assigned areas, and responsibility for on-going maintenance and financial integrity of forecasts (including re-forecasts and five year plan) relating to relevant costs and revenues and proper recording in financial systems
Assist in preparation of group reporting within tight timelines, and addressing queries/ requests for further information
Provide support to the wider business in respect of business cases, projects and performance improvement initiatives
Support and assistance on a broad range of ad-hoc projects including input on technical accounting queries and external auditor queries as part of regular financial reporting audits
Assist in internal audit reviews and close out of internal audit recommendations
Assist in development of detailed and appropriate automated reporting for inclusion in Executive management financial review pack
On-going identification and development of KPIs for inclusion in  the monthly management reporting to assist in business review, analysis and decision making
Actively seek continuous improvement in finance processes and reporting
Build a close working relationship with functional management with the objective of becoming a trusted and critical finance business partner
Develop a deep understanding of the functional areas’ business model and the links between the functional areas’ business drivers and financial performance.
Work with functional management on identifying cost reduction and efficiency initiatives and quantifying their current year and projected five year financial effect and provide reporting to Executive level as required

Your qualifications & essential criteria:

You must have graduated with a minimum of a 2:1 in a level 8 Undergraduate Degree or Masters Degree in the last 12 months or be expecting to have achieved this result by September 2018
Your degree must be in a relevant discipline that demonstrates numerical capability. This includes degrees with a strong focus in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, Commerce, Analytics, Maths, Statistics, Engineering, Science
You must want to become a qualified accountant and be willing to study towards an appropriate professional accountancy qualification (CIMA, ACCA, or ACA)
Proficient level of skills in Microsoft Excel as well as Word and Powerpoint
Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Eligible to live and work in the EU
Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport
Provide 2 verifiable references
Able to pass a strict airport security vetting procedure which includes a 5 year background check* or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based in

*If you are a non-Irish Citizen, you will need to be in possession of a current police disclosure certificate from your home country. If you have lived outside the Republic of Ireland for more than 6 months you will also be required to hold a current police disclosure certificate from that country/countries
