Are you interested in joining Ireland’s only 4-star airline? Applications are currently being invited for the role of Fleet Planning and Aircraft Analysis Specialist. Reporting to the Head of Fleet Assets, the successful candidate will assist managing Aer Lingus aircraft across the full life cycle from from initial Aircraft evaluation and Fleet Planning to end of life and disposal.
The Fleet Assets group led by the Director of Fleet Planning is responsible for fleet strategy, planning and implementation, delivering the capacity required by the corporate strategic plan at the lowest cost and commercial risk while managing and optimising all the components of aircraft ownership costs. Implementation includes transaction negotiation and control, in addition to the project management of physical change. Aircraft order and delivery timescales stretch over many years and the economic operating life of aircraft is typically above 20 years – thus the Fleet Assets time horizon is significant.
Responsibility for the on-going evaluation of the relative economics, performance and product characteristics of a range of aircraft types. Aircraft choices and selection have a very significant bearing on the operating cost structure of the company - ownership costs represent approximately 10% of total airline operating costs.
Support the Director/Head in preparing and reviewing required Short Term (5 Years) and Long Term (10-15 Year) Fleet Plans for both Short Haul and Long Haul Fleet. The selected candidate will be responsible of maintaining and improving current Fleet Planning tools and models.
Development of analytical/financial evaluations and business cases for the Aer Lingus and IAG Executive Board, including but not limited to aircraft acquisition, disposal, financing and technical enhancements.
The Fleet Planning and Aircraft Analysis Specialist will need to work very closely with the Strategy team, Maintenance and Finance Business Control to maintain a current and up to date Fleet Cost per Seat database. Providing insight to Director/Head to assist in decisions for fleet strategy, planning and implementation, delivering the capacity required by the corporate strategic plan at the lowest cost and commercial risk while managing and optimising all the components of aircraft ownership costs.
Preparing and reporting key fleet metrics and KPIs such as cost per aircraft tail (ownership and maintenance), fleet age profile, fleet disposal flexibility and financing/ownership profile.
Being the leading contributor to the on-going Aircraft Total Cost of Ownership project.
Continuous monitoring of aircraft markets and values for opportunities and risks.
Build and maintain effective relationships with OEMs, Lessors, other carriers, appraisers and the wider aircraft/airline industry.
Support the financial budgeting and planning process from a Fleet Assets and Aircraft costs perspective.
Elaborate briefings and presentations of fleet options, commercial terms, project updates and recommendation for Executive decision process.
Representing Aer Lingus at industry events and seminars.
To be considered for the position of Fleet Planning and Aircraft Analysis Specialist candidates must meet the following:
Your qualifications & key criteria:
3rd level qualification in Finance, business or engineering and/or a proven track record in a business, engineering or related disciplines.
Highly literate in Finance. Certified Chartered Accountant is desirable.
Strong and advanced abilities using Microsoft Excel and programming/modelling tools.
Strong performance in creating presentations and briefing documents.
Excellent financial evaluation, analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrable experience in this field is required.
Strong organizational skills with high level of initiative and team strength.
Highly motivated and tenacious.
Able to engage across many varied functions within and outside Aer Lingus
Strong commercial focus with a clear understanding of Aer Lingus’ business position
Knowledgeable and enthusiastic about commercial aviation, particularly with respect to understanding the commercial and operational environment.
Excellent verbal and written communicator, able to present information and opinions in an objective and articulate manner.
Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to build and maintain positive working relationships.
Commercially aware with a focus on delivery to timelines.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken
Eligible to live and work in the EU
Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport
Able to provide 3 verifiable references
Able to pass a strict airport security vetting procedure which includes a 5 year background check* (or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based in i.e. Dublin)
*If you are a non-Irish Citizen, you will need to be in possession of a current police disclosure certificate from your home country. If you have lived outside the Republic of Ireland for more than 6 months you will also be required to hold a current police disclosure certificate from that country/countries
Experience in a similar role within an airline, lessor, OEM or engineering company.
Degree or MSc in Air Transport Management, MSc in Aviation Finance or similar.
