We are looking for a confident, assertive and focused Business Control Manager to join our Finance team. Reporting to the Director Business Control you will provide critical financial support to the Aer Lingus Senior Management and Executive functions including  Digital and Mobile, Business Technology, CFO and Finance, Revenue Accounting, CEO, HR, Corporate Affairs, Property and Executive Counsel (Legal). The portfolio to manage is extremely varied ranging from IT infrastructure and new innovative digital solution projects through to the future property strategy of the airline or public relations programmes. This is a unique opportunity assisting multiple Executives and therefore quickly developing a senior network within the business, the Corporate Support functions are responsible for a significant part of Aer Lingus’ €1.8 billion cost base. As such we are looking for an outstanding relationship builder with sound emotional intelligence and ability to work closely with non-financial management.

Performance managing, motivating and mentoring direct reports is also a key feature of this role as well as the initiation, development, approval and implementation of major projects including all technology projects.

We will expect you to operate as a commercial focused and results oriented business partner and financial advisor to the Executive members and senior management responsible for the relevant areas to enable these functions to realise budget and strategic targets as well as formulate solutions and actions to cost and operational challenges.

Your role:

General responsibilities
Provide finance business partner services to Executives and senior management in the corporate support functions on an independent basis.
Lead the extraction of insights and conclusions from financial information and drive the corporate support business agenda as a partner and, if needed, counterweight to the Executive and senior management team members. Propose and support development of improvement / follow up actions; engage with business leaders in securing implementation.
Take ownership of explaining, interpreting and analysing financial results relating to the corporate support functions. Manage strategic and tactical KPIs, provide depth and precision to KPIs and bring insights to senior team. Develop KPIs, forecasts, business reviews to be structured, forward looking and commercially oriented.
Understand and explain performance variances (both positive and negative); work with business managers to identify remedial measures if required and develop forecasts taking into account underlying variance causes and corrective actions.
Make a meaningful impact on corporate results by working with the functional management of the corporate support functions to identify, evaluate, select and implement medium to long term initiatives to exploit cost reduction / value creation opportunities and address cost and operational challenges. Promote external benchmarking and best practice sharing initiatives.
Assist with the evaluation and implementation of cost reduction or avoidance opportunities as these relate specifically to technology and business change programmes.
Define finance business partner priorities for the corporate support functions and ensure quality outputs in this area.
Establish team specific priorities through understanding executive expectations and specific needs of the functional management of the corporate support functions.
Responsible for budget elements (i.e. primarily payroll and overheads) as these relate to the Corporate Support business control team.
Coordinate monthly review process, budgeting and forecasting for the corporate support functions.
Take responsibility for the corporate support functions’ operating models; reinforce understanding of business drivers in all areas of the business link to financial performance.

Team responsibilities
Provide oversight and support to individual Corporate Support Business Control team members and reinforce individual team members at interactions with the business if required.
Provide assistance (if required) to individual team members on particularly complex, material or technical work streams.
Motivate and encourage the individual Corporate Support Business Control team members to perform.

Process responsibilities
Responsible for business planning, budgeting, monthly reviews, investment reviews in the corporate support functions.
Develop templates for recurring processes / activities specific to the corporate support functions and support development of similar templates at organisation wide level as required.

Projects, business case & investment responsibility
Work closely with the functional management of the corporate support functions to develop value creating strategies and revenue and cost proposals.
Provide direct support for and input into strategic (i.e. five year plan), budget and in-year forecasts for the corporate support functions with a particular emphasis on target setting.
Provide financial rigour and general business insight into all investment proposals / business cases / operational proposals / commercial proposals being developed by a specific business area regardless of quantum and determine whether accepted financial assessment criteria have been applied to the proposal in question.
Ensure that discipline is brought to bear in the post implementation benefits tracking process.
Identify, track and support cost reduction initiatives for individual business areas.
Identify, track and support IAG synergies for individual business areas.
Provide continuous performance evaluation, business support and constructive challenge to business management to drive the achievement of the corporate support functions’ short, mid and long-term strategic objectives.

Key criteria:

Extensive experience in a senior financial role at publicly listed company or comparatively large private company operating in a complex, highly competitive and margin focused business environment
Fully qualified accountant.
Experience leading large improvement initiatives and projects (issue identification, structuring, organisation, etc.).
Must have strategic and tactical capability to have an impact on the top and bottom line of the relevant business area, balancing short-term results with a sustained push towards turnaround of medium to long-term business performance.
Leadership and influencing skills.
Focused and deadline driven with excellent attention to detail & accuracy.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (including report writing & presentation skills)
Unquestionable ethics and integrity
Highly analytical and able to drive fact based decision making
Valid EU work permit
